The single most influential organization within the American historic preservation community is the National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP). In 1949, President Harry Truman signed legislation creating the National Trust as a private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to saving historic places and revitalizing America's communities. With a mission to preserve America's historic places, it made perfect sense to unite the prestige of the oldest American textile carpet company with the leadership of the National Trust.
